Halitosis Or Bad Breath |
Causes
Halitosis or bad breath can be associated with many things and to further facilitate things, these cases can be classified into two divisions. There are two known cases of bad breath or Halitosis, namely genuine and non-genuine.
Genuine bad breath refers to the cases wherein the bad breath is caused by a condition of the mouth. Genuine bad breath accounts for 85% of the cases and can be caused by poor dental hygiene, plaque build-up, a rotten tooth, and more.
On the other hand, non-genuine cases are attributed to disorders in the lungs, sinuses, and other parts internal parts of the body. More specifically, non-genuine halitosis can be caused by common colds and cough, acid reflux, and many more.
Symptoms
The symptoms of Halitosis can be rather obvious as its common name can already pertain to what to look for, which is bad breath. Furthermore, cases of halitosis can be identified when unpleasant odor can be sniffed out of the mouth during conversations or any other exhaling actions.
Having a bad breath in the morning is a common thing but having a foul odor persisting and escaping out of your mouth throughout the day can attribute to bad breath. Basically, if the foul smell just would not go away then you may be looking at a case of Halitosis or bad breath already.
Prevention
To prevent having bad breath, you may do the following:
· Eat Healthily
Eating and oral hygiene are closely related to each other as the food you are taking can severely damage or treat your dental parts. The good old example of candies can serve as a great illustration for this step to avoid bad breath as eating fewer candies can reduce the risk of oral problems such as rotten teeth – which is a cause of bad breath.
· Do Not Forget That Dentists Exist
Dentists are there for a reason and they can really help you fix your problems with your breath. As mentioned, more than 80% of bad breath cases are attributed to oral factors and it is just logical to consult a mouth expert regarding your condition. Dentists are everywhere and if you are from Toronto, you can consult Dr. Claudia Wood, a Danforth Dentist who can keep your dental hygiene generally proper to avoid cases of bad breath.
· Do Your Part
Dentists are not just the only people responsible for keeping your oral hygiene good at all times. Majority of the task that you would need to do would rely on your own labor. Dentists can only do so much but the rest of the daily maintenance should come from you so do not forget to brush three times a day, and follow your dentist’s orders.
Treatment/Cure
Halitosis is caused by many things and it is just right to say that curing it would heavily depend on the cause which is why there are also a lot of methods to cure bad breath.
First and foremost if the bad breath is caused by a rotten tooth or tooth decay, you would need to head down to your dentist and have the weed pulled out from the wheat. Furthermore, bad breath, if resulting from bad oral hygiene can be simply cured by means of using a mouthwash. Aside from using a strong mouthwash, brushing your teeth and flossing can also alleviate the condition.
On the other hand, if the bad breath is non-genuine then in order to cure it you would have to address the non-oral problem. For example, if you are suspecting that your case of Halitosis is caused by a common cough or colds then address the illnesses accordingly.
Halitosis can be caused by a lot of factors and the same thing goes for its effects. Bad breath can affect your confidence severely and bring you down instantly which is why addressing the problem should not be taken lightly.
