What Are Substance Abuse Programs

Substance Abuse Programs also referred to as drug rehabilitation, are medical and psychotherapeutic programs for dependency on various substances such as alcohol, drugs. The program includes freedom from abuse of substances including psychoactive substance (example Alcohol), Prescription drugs, and street drugs (example cocaine, heroin, amphetamines).
Various categories can characterize substance abuse according to the pattern that causes substantial impairment or distress. Other diagnostic criteria include:
  • Using of substances when the user is in danger
  • Person fails to fulfill significant requirements at work, school or home
  • Getting oneself into major drug-related problems
  • Ignoring the consequences and continuing to use substances that can cause health problems for a lifetime.

Each type of substance abuse has various features depending on the kind:
  1. Stimulant abuse: Stimulants can be legal substances such as nicotine, caffeine, and also illegal substances such as cocaine and methamphetamine. Violation of these drugs depletes energy, and the user has intense cravings for drugs and even withdrawal symptoms.
