Why are you in pain?

The reasons for such pain can be many, but the most common ones include:

  • Spinal cord injury: A Spinal cord is a group of nerves that run down to the back starting from the end of your brain. The spinal cord is one of the most sensitive parts of the human body and is prone to injuries. The common reasons for damage to the spinal cord are trauma, compression or loss of blood supply. Any injury to the spine can cause partial or complete paralysis of the body.
  • Musculoskeletal disorders: It is a frequently occurring disorder that has more chances of happening as you age. It comprises of injuries to the muscles, joints, and bones. The signs of this ailment can be quickly noted as it interferes with the daily physical activities. The treatment focuses on reducing the pain and the swelling which is done with medications. Combining therapies along with the ongoing treatment gives excellent results.
  • Nervous system injuries: Injury to the nervous system mainly indicates traumatic brain injury and brain cancer. The two primary reasons for damage to the brain include trauma and stroke. The signs and symptoms following the injury are noticeable. Some of them include weakness, tingling, paralysis, blurred vision, loss of vision or speech, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, etc.

What is a Chiropractor?

A Chiropractic is a healthcare professional who devotes himself to the cure of the injuries to the nervous system and musculoskeletal system. Their prime focus is to relieve the pain and reconstruct the functions. Their approach is entirely manual manipulation that is free from any surgeries or medications. Chiropractic undergoes four years of doctoral graduate programs.

Services offered
  • Examination: It further involves consultation, case-history, and physical examination.
  • Consultation: During the session, the patient meets with his/her chiropractic and briefs them about the following:
    • Pain's Duration.
    • It's Frequency.
    • Symptoms description.
    • Location of pain
    • Factors increasing the pain
    • Factors decreasing the pain
  • Case History: It helps in gaining a thorough knowledge of the pain. It includes:
    • Family history
    • History of any other treatments
    • Diet history
    • Psychosocial history
    • Occupational history
  • Physical Examination: The physician then examines the area of the injury to know the extent and severity of it. After obtaining the results from the examination, further research is done through:
    • X-ray: This is done to detect any present subluxations.
    • Another test is done using a device that measures the uneven temperature of the skin near the spine that requires manipulation.
  • Diagnosis: For best results, the investigation needs to be accurate, and the differential diagnosis is considered. The pain is categorized into the following:
    • Potentially dangerous: Neurological problem, tumor, infection, wound, hemophilia, fracture and joint issues.
    • Nerve problem: It can also be called nerve compression or nerve root pinching. It includes spinal stenosis and lumbar herniated disc.
    • Non-specific: In some of the pain it is difficult to obtain the cause. One such type of pain is the mechanical back pain, which involves the spine.

  • Spinal Manipulation: It is also known by the names “spinal adjustment” and “chiropractic adjustment.” This most common type of treatment used in chiropractic care focuses on the mobility of the joints by applying controlled forces where the joints have become hypo-mobile. Hypo-mobile joints are restricted in their movements due to injury caused by the tissues. The tissue injury is mostly a result of either a single trauma or constant stress over it. The spinal manipulation involves:
    • A short lever arm thrust of high velocity is applied to the vertebrae. It is a sudden force of high-velocity that signals the neural discharge from the spinal muscles.
    • Along with that, to release the joint pressure, there is a detectable release of gas done. It is caused by the release of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen.
    • Spasms or tensing of muscles during the treatment is a rare occasion, which does not last for a long duration.
Dr. Bryan Foss, a Denver Chiropractor, recommends that on your visit to the Chiropractor, be specific about your symptoms. It helps the physician in providing the best results. He may even refer you to another health care professional if it seems correct. Regardless of the type of pain you are in, you should always be vocal about it without hesitation with your Chiropractor.
