1.    Removable complete dentures.
2.    Fixed complete dentures.

What Are The Functions Of Complete Dentures?

The main functions of complete dentures are:
Aesthetics: The complete denture restores the lost facial contours and looks because once the patient loses his teeth, his looks change dramatically and his cheeks appear sucked in.
Improving speech: A patient has difficulty in speaking and saying words after losing his teeth. Complete dentures support the lips and cheeks and help in the improvement of speech.
Ability to chew their food: The complete denture allows the patient to eat their favorite food. It helps them to chew their food again.
Boosts Confidence: People become self-conscious after losing their teeth. They feel embarrassed to speak or eat in public. Complete dentures help the patients to get rid of their inhibitions and boosts their self-confidence.
Improves overall health: Complete dentures helps in the improvement of the overall health of the patient as it allows the patient to eat a variety of hard and soft food again.

What Are The Different Parts Of Complete Denture?

The various parts of complete dentures are:
Denture Base: The denture base is the foundation of the denture. It is the part in which the oral mucosa rests, and the teeth are attached. It is usually made of acrylic resin. It distributes and transfers the force exerted on the denture teeth to the dental tissues underneath.

The flange of a Denture: Flange of a denture is the vertical extension of the body of the denture. The primary functions of the flange are to act as a peripheral seal and give horizontal stability to the denture.
Denture Border: It is the margin of the denture base and is responsible for the peripheral seal. A good denture has a denture border without any sharp edges so that there is no soft tissue injury.
Denture Teeth: The most critical part of the denture is its teeth. It gives the patient confidence to smile. It supports the facial muscles and lips and helps in speaking correctly.

Denture teeth can be made from different types of materials like acrylic, porcelain, IPN resin, gold occlusal, acrylic resin mixed with amalgam.

What Should Be Considered Before Fabricating The Complete Dentures?

A good dentist should always understand the problems of the patient and his expectations from the dentures. The dentures should be fabricated keeping the following things in mind:
Age: Successful treatment of the patient and how well the patient will adjust with the complete dentures depends on his age.

Complete dentures are more helpful for patients in their early forties to fifties than patients who are very old.

Sex: It is seen that male patients prefer complete dentures which are comfortable and allows them to eat correctly whereas female patients are very conscious about the look of the dentures and how close it is to their natural teeth and appearance. A dentist should always consider the needs of the patients.
Complexion: The color of the teeth should be chosen according to the complexion of the patient to make it appear more natural.
Psychological condition: The psychological condition of the patient should be considered before fabricating the dentures as the mental attitude of the patient, and his willingness to adjust with the new dentures is essential for successful treatment.
Patients who are calm and psychologically sound, adapt well to the new changes in their life after getting dentures and are ready to learn the management of dentures. When the patients are indifferent or hysterical, then they may not adjust with the dentures.

According to Dr. Scott Simpson, a Tigard Dentist, it is imperative to know the medical history of the patient before starting the treatment because people suffering from cardiovascular diseases may need to visit their cardiologist as some steps involved in the process of getting dentures may not suit them.
The dentist should also alter his plan of treatment for patients suffering from joint problems like TMJ and osteoarthritis.
